Mackmyra Svensk Whisky AB is Sweden’s first and founding malt whisky distillery, established in 1999 in Gävle, Gästrikland. Operating from Mackmyra Whisky Village, the company produces single malt whisky using Swedish ingredients, a pioneering gravity distillery, and six unique aging environments including 50m underground storage in Bodås mine. Mackmyra created the world’s first AI-generated whisky (Intelligens) in collaboration with Thoughtworks. The brand entered formal bankruptcy in August 2024 and was acquired by new ownership, though principal co-owner Lennart Hero died in July 2025, and an unresolved SEK 400M ownership dispute between Gunnar Dellner and Glenn Ström has paused production as of August 2025.
